One of the easiest DIY headboard ideas is a fabric covered headboard. It is easier and cheaper than you might think. The best part is that you can customize it to fit your specific taste and style.

Fabric Covered Headboard

For this fabric covered headboard you will need: plywood, foam, batting, fabric and a staple gun. You can find plywood at any home improvement store. Take your measurements before you go and then ask them to cut the piece to the right size for you. The next step is to attach your foam. You can use any size foam depending on how cushy you want the headboard to be. Either use a staple gun to attach or use spray adhesive if your foam is a little thicker. Next, lay the batting on top and secure to the back with a staple gun. Do the same thing with your fabric and then secure the entire headboard to the wall. It's that simple.

A few tips on buying your materials:

When buying foam, wait for a half off sale or until you have a coupon. It can be expensive if you need a large amount. You don't need a really thick foam, so buy something a little thinner or skip it all together to save some money. When buying fabric, head straight to the clearance section and see if you can find something there first. If you've found a pricey fabric, again the best option is to wait for a sale or use a coupon. Fabric stores always have 50% off sales, so just ask when the next one is coming and sign up to receive the store coupons via mail. This will save you tons of money on all those gorgeous fabrics.
